CODE OF ETHICS FOR MEMBERS
OF THE
UTAH MOSQUITO ABATEMENT ASSOCIATION
Mosquitoes are responsible for more human
disease around the world than any other insect.
The pain and suffering caused by mosquitoes in
many third world countries is not experienced in
the United States because of a higher standard
of living which includes mosquito abatement.
However, mosquitoes which carry no
transmissible disease but are present in
sufficient numbers to produce intense annoyance
and distress to humans and animals are
recognized as a public health problem.
Public health, more than the mere absence of
disease, includes the right to an environment
free of mental and physical discomforts that
destroy its positive values.
Mosquito abatement provides services which are
increasingly important to the health, welfare
and progress of society. Those employed in
the mosquito abatement profession have the
responsibility to render effective and
professional service to humanity, in keeping
with the standards of ethical conduct.
Therefore, in striving to advance and maintain
the honor and dignity of the profession, the
Utah Mosquito Abatement Association (UMAA) has
established the following code to define the
conduct and ethics due the profession. This code
is binding on the membership of the UMAA.
UMAA members will use their knowledge and skill
for the betterment of human welfare.
Members will, at all times, strive to maintain
the public trust, and advance the standards and
principles established by the UMAA.
Members will cooperate in the exchange of
information and technology for the growth and
progress of the mosquito abatement profession
and the UMAA.
Members will use an integrated approach to
mosquito abatement whenever possible.
Members will not cause dishonor to the
Association through their actions while
representing the UMAA.
Members will promote solidarity, harmony and
support among members and fellow workers.
They will not undermine, vilify, berate or
otherwise intentionally injure the work,
accomplishments, efforts or professional
reputation of another member of the Association.
Members will help defend and morally support
others against unjust claims and accusations.
They will defend the mosquito abatement
profession and report to the UMAA Board of
Directors any member acting in a manner
inconsistent with the policies and guidelines
set forth by the UMAA.
Members will not in any circumstance use their
relationship with the UMAA for personal gain.
Charges of any violation of this code on the
part of any member will be reviewed by the UMAA
Board of Directors and may, with a majority vote
of the Board, result in, but not limited to,
censorship, loss of voting privileges within the
Association, removal from committee membership
and removal from membership in the Association.
Any potential UMAA member who will not swear to
abide by this code of ethics will not be
eligible for UMAA membership.
